Holiday Train Show at The New York Botanical Garden, a preview
Tuesday, 16 November 2021

It's that wonderful time of the year, the one where the holidays seem to merge from one into the other, starting at the end of October into late in December. But the most marvellous time of them all is the holiday train show at the New York Botanical Garden. This, the 30th year, has some extraordinary new features for the display, with a showcase of the garden's buildings and structures.

Let's start with the new replica of the majestic LuEsther T. Mertz Library Building.

Of course there are tracks so one of the G-scale trains can clickety clack by.

Here's an image of the fountain so you may better admire wonderful creativity,

The replica's facade is constructed of horse chestnut bark for the building's stone blocks, with accents of mahogany pods, cinnamon pods, and black walnuts, among other natural materials. Creating it took an estimated 900 to 1,000 hours. Here's a closeup, so you can admire the wonderful detail of the Lillian Goldman Fountain of Life that has been created using tobacco leaves, grape vine tendrils for hair, with the fountain's basin made from large shelf fungus.

More than 190 replicas of New York landmarks have been artistically crafted out of natural materials such as leaves, seeds, twigs, bark, acorns, and pine cone scales, all crafted by the creative team at Applied Imagination in Alexandria, Kentucky.

There are brownstones, carefully identified as to the actual buildings on which they are based.

Such famous New York landmarks as the Statue of Liberty, on display in the Palm Court's pool.
